A secondary barrier is a water-resistant material placed between sheathing and EPS board to give the sheathing added protection from moisture. Choosing the appropriate barrier for the selected sheathing is crucial to the success of a barrier EIF system. Secondary barriers are supplied as liquid applied "membrane" coatings or as sheet goods. Parex offers several types of secondary barriers to suit a full range of sheathing materials.

KeyCoat Barriers:
"KeyCoat" is a term that describes the process of applying a liquid membrane secondary weather barrier and an EPS adhesive together in one step. The KeyCoat is one coat of material that serves two key functions. A KeyCoat forms an effective barrier against moisture and locks down EPS board with one product application.
KeyCoat Liquid Membrane Adhesive Barriers:
Parex KeyCoat Liquid Membrane Adhesive offers secondary barrier protection for glass mat-faced or cement-based sheathing and is also a superior EPS adhesive. KeyCoat Liquid Membrane Adhesive can be used as a moisture barrier for Water Master Commercial and Standard Extra systems and as an EPS adhesive on any Parex system.
Sheet Type Barriers:
Parex House Wrap
A Grade D vapor permeable Kraft paper, Parex House Wrap is a 60-minute asphalt saturated paper and is suitable for use on any wood sheathing. Parex House Wrap is used in the Parex Water Master systems in conjunction with Water Master drainage EPS board.
StuccoWrap™
StuccoWrap™ is a Tyvek® material with engineered drainage channels. StuccoWrap™ offers protection against moisture intrusion and provides a means of drainage should water ingress occur. StuccoWrap™ is suitable for any wood sheathing and is used in the Parex Water Master with StuccoWrap™ system in conjunction with regular flat EPS board. |
